Underground Storage Tanks
A major Health Care Facility contracted with Environmental Services, Inc. (ESI) to coordinate mechanical engineering consultants on behalf of the owner to remove active and abandoned UST’s and replace them with AST’s.
ESI storage tank solutions services provided:
- Preliminary investigation: located two UST’s, and the associated piping, that were abandoned and believed to be beneath an asphalt parking lot. There was no record of their exact location, size, or orientation;
- Assessed the sites for possible contamination;
- Excavated and disposed of four out of service 15,000-20,000 UST’s. Disposal included contaminated soil;
- Provided turnkey installation of three new 10,000 gallon AST’s.
- Coordinated the cutover of the fuel supply from two active 15,000 gallon UST’s to the new AST’s. Cutover was accomplished without risk to hospital emergency power.
- Closed in place the two (formerly active) 15,000 gallon UST’s. The UST’s could not be removed without compromising adjacent foundations.
- Provided site restoration improvements, parking, and landscaping enhancements.
- Provided liaison support for the client with the State Environmental agency. With this support, penalties and fines for not registering the tanks were waived. The owner received full-closure approval from the state.
- The project was on-time and within budget.
